Dumbass Saying: “Dress For The Job You Want”

Unless you're applying to be a prostitute
don't dress for the job you want.
With unemployment rates as high as they are, there’s no room for sayings like this that will mislead people when it comes to getting a job. You should not dress for the job you want. For example: I WANT to be an astronaut. That does not mean I should dress in a replica NASA space suit to my job interview at an insurance firm. If you want to be a stripper, you should not come to an office building naked. You will be arrested by security in the main lobby.

Now if this saying were “Dress for the job you’re applying to” then I might not have as much of a problem with it. However that can still be a misleading piece of advice because if you’re applying to McDonald’s or a gas station you should dress a little nicer than that.

Another problem with this saying is it’s difficult for most people to actually do. If you want a great job and you’re broke, you can’t always dress as fancy as the job you want. Dressing for the job you want is right up there with companies only taking applications from people who are already employed. It’s just not right.

Dumbass Sayings: “There’s No Such Thing As Bad Press”

If you got your head caught in that,
I suppose it would be a bad press.
Whenever someone is being destroyed by the news media you might hear the saying “There’s no such thing as bad press”. The idea behind the saying is that any attention is good attention. The news might show Dennis Rodman kicking a camera guy in the nutsack and talk about how he’s crazy, but it gets people talking about him and years later he gets to hang out with Kim Jong Un and do lots of other fun stuff.

Unfortunately this saying is not true. There is such thing as bad press especially these days with more and more atrocious things occurring. If you don’t believe me consider Penn State University after the Jerry Sandusky story broke. I’m sure that was a boon to their enrollment numbers. Ask any school or mall shooter’s family if there’s such thing as bad press. These types of things never used to happen with regularity, but now that they do I think it’s time to retire this saying. No one should benefit from such tragedies anyway so this isn’t a saying we should want to be true. There IS such a thing as bad press and it happens to you and your relatives when you do insanely evil shit. Let’s stop encouraging people by saying “There’s no such thing as bad press.” That is one dumbass phrase!
