Ask McFartnuggets: “If Beautiful Women Don’t Want to Be Objectified Why Don’t They Disfigure Themselves?”

Dear McFartnuggets: 

Beautiful women always complain about being objectified for their looks by men so if it’s such a big problem why don’t they just get a big face tattoo or mess up their skin or something to make them look like an average person? Clearly there has to be some benefit to being beautiful so isn’t this just a silly complaint to be making? It’s like they’re saying “Mo money mo problems.” Sorry if I don’t find that to be a valid complaint. Sorry if life can’t be 100% perfect for you! Sorry you’ll never know what it’s like to get everything you have based on the merit of your work like a so-called “ugly” woman! -- Bernice from Montpelier, Vermont

Dear Bernice:

WHOA WHOA WHOAAAAA! Calm down there. No one has to disfigure themselves! This is a complicated issue. No one should be treated differently because of how they look, but the fact is we all are. Since that’s just the way things are, you’re going to see people complaining about discrimination no matter what they look like. Whether you’re a beautiful woman complaining about being objectified while also getting special treatment for being beautiful or an ugly woman who doesn’t get objectified, but at the same time doesn’t have to deal with catcalls and constant harassment, we all have our complaints to make. The bottom line is you shouldn’t criticize or complain openly around people who have it worse than you. The problem is you’ll never know who really has it better or worse than you until you’ve lived their life which you can’t really do. We all want a perfect life, you can’t really blame beautiful women who has a life on a scale of 1-100, a 98 for going for the perfect score. It may seem greedy or excessive to people who score about a 60, but there’s nothing you can really do about that. Just do what you can to raise your own score, avoid dragging others down to where you are, and if you can, try to help others while you’re at it. If we all did that I think the world would be a much nicer place.

Men are going to objectify women regardless of what they look like.
