Dumbass Sayings: “Phuckin A”

Sometimes if you ask a friend if they want to go to brunch for a light cucumber sandwich, some biscuits and tea they reply “Phuckin A!” “Phuckin A” is a very peculiar phrase used in modern English. It’s worth some examination because from what I can tell no one actually knows what the fuck it means. Most people tend to believe “Phuckin A” means anything between “Phuckin Awesome,” “Phuckin Affirmative,” or “Phuckin Absolutely.” If that’s the case why not say “Effin A”? If you’re abbreviating words to their initial letter why would you choose the word “awesome”? Awesome is a very overused word in our society, but it’s not something you typically have to censor. It’s not known as the “A-word.” Furthermore, when you say “Phuckin A” how is anyone supposed to know the A stands for awesome, absolutely, ass, or anything? The history of this term is very foggy. The origins were never explained to anyone and none of it is particularly obvious to someone who hasn’t made their own assumptions about the meaning. The only time you should hear “Phuckin A” is from a Canadian with Tourettes who’s just trying to say “Eh.” There are so many other ways to make an affirmative statement without the ambiguity and nonsense of “Phuckin A.”
