Ask McFartnuggets: “Why Do Foot Locker Employees Dress Like Referees?”

Referees know two things:
rules and footwear.
Dear McFartnuggets:
Why do Foot Locker employees have to dress like referees? Where is the logic in that? I know they sell basketball sneakers, but referees don’t particularly know anything about shoes. If I want shoe expertise I don’t go to a referee. Usually they’re wearing plain black shoes. What is this? -- Skyler from Kentucky

Dear Skyler:
I never thought about that, but you’re right that doesn’t make sense. I think maybe it’s to make people feel like basketball players. When you walk in you see a referee, you see basketball sneakers. If you’re drinking a Gatorade then you’re basically a real NBA player at that point, the only thing missing is the millions of dollars. Also if you are a real basketball player it must be satisfying to have someone dressed up as a referee measuring your foot. That must be some kind of weird role-playing fantasy that normal people don’t know about. The referees are always the ones in control on the court, but when you’re in a shoe store, they become the bitches fetching footwear for the players.
