Whenever a sports team wins a championship and their fans riot in celebration, torching cars, and smashing store windows one of the most commonly screamed phrases is “Let’s go! LET’S GOOOOOOO!!!” Okay… Let’s go where? Where are we going? Why do people say this? Think about it. What the hell does “Let’s go” actually mean? Now I get when players say “Let’s go!” on the field because they’re saying “Let’s go win. Let’s go to the championship! Let us go to victory!” That’s what “Let’s go” means in that context. However when people scream “Let’s go Vikings!” during a celebration after the game is over that literally makes no sense. The only place you might be going is jail after you just threw a trash can through the window of a pet store and started a car fire, because that’s what people do when they’re happy, right? If the game is over you don’t say “Let’s go!” If anything say “We went!” Of course that sounds ridiculous so you’re better off just saying nothing because you didn’t actually do anything. You watched other people do something and the last time I checked that’s not an achievement.
Alright, I got all my bags packed, where are we going? |
