I heard on the news that a French cartoonist Charlie Hedbo was killed by terrorists. Who was Charlie Hedbo and why haven’t we heard of his work more before his tragic death? Rest in peace Charlie Hedbo! We are Charlie! -- Nikki from Cleveland, Ohio
Dear Nikki:
I think you may have gotten some of your information wrong. I believe you’re referring to “Charlie Hebdo” which is not an actual person, it’s a satirical French newspaper that comes out weekly. “Hebdo” is a shortened form of the French word for “weekly.” Terrorists killed cartoonists at the Charlie Hebdo newspaper. All the people showing support for Charlie are actually supporting the newspaper not a specific dude. Because so many people died they have to honor them collectively in the form of “Charlie.” I guess I can see how that might be confusing if you’re an idiot.
Well here are some cartoon characters no one could take offense to. |
