Dear McFartnuggets:
You know how sometimes when people wink they make a weird clicking sound with their tongue and sometimes also make a finger gun at you? What the hell is that? Where did that start? Does that even have a name? What is that supposed to mean when someone does that? Who the hell do these people think they are? What possesses someone to do that? Is winking not enough they have to add in sound effects? What is that sound supposed to signify? -- Tildy from Schenectady, New York
Dear Tildy:
That clicking sound is known as “The click” it’s used to add extra emphasis to a wink. No one knows where it started or what psychopath was the first person to do it, but apparently they taught it to other people and it spread like wildfire. Generally people add a click to look cooler. It’s kind of like the sound of firing a finger gun. Of course there are no bullets in a finger gun because it’s a weapon of peace so the clicking sound is what you get when the trigger is pulled with nothing in the chamber.
Sometimes it's hard to tell if someone is winking or just having a stroke. |
