There’s a song from 1932 called “I’ve Got The World on a String” where the singer says “I’ve got the world on a string.” It was most famously sung by Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra which might explain why they were able to get away with saying something so insane. This is a very strange idea to be holding the world on a string. Is the world a tampon or something? Why would you have the world on a string? That sounds very precarious and dangerous. This saying sounds more like a threat than a cheerful exclamation. This is something a dictator would say after they’ve defeated all the world’s armies and conquered humanity. Singing “I’ve got the world on a string!” is essentially the same thing as singing “I am god! I am god!” Obviously the latter would be completely unacceptable in a pop song, yet for some reason when you state you have the power of an omnipotent deity in the former, that’s perfectly fine...
If you put all the worlds on a string you've got a decent set of galactic anal beads. |
