Elvis said that “Wise men say only fools rush in.” If this is indeed true then wise men are probably dumber than we thought. You know who rushes in? First responders like firefighters, rescue workers, EMTs, etc. These people rush in to disaster zones and dangerous situations all the time. Are they fools? I don’t think I would call them fools. Maybe to a jackass wise man they’re foolish to ignore their own physical health to save strangers, but I would call that courageous. Calling heroes foolish is flat out dumb. What happens the next time you’re trapped under burning wreckage and someone about to “rush in” sees you and recalls you think they’re a fool? Well, since they’re a first responder they would probably help you anyway because that’s what they do. I guess you’d call that foolish too! Maybe these wise men aren’t as wise as we were initially led to believe.
