Ask McFartnuggets: “Is Caitlyn Jenner The Greatest Woman Athlete of All-Time?”

Dear McFartnuggets:
Now that Bruce Jenner has revealed that he was a woman this whole time does that make her officially the greatest woman athlete of all time? She won a gold medal at the 1976 Olympics in the Decathlon competing against men. That’s pretty much unheard of for a woman to achieve. I don’t think any other woman on Earth could do something like that. Why don’t you see more people making a bigger deal about this? What an inspiration she is to young girls out there who would one day like to compete against men! -- Georgia from Staten Island, New York

Dear Georgia:
She WAS the best female athlete. However, because she wasn’t making her gender identity as a woman known at the time of the Olympics most people won’t be willing to give her full credit for that. If she was a woman inside then I suppose you have to say she was one of the best women athletes ever. The key word is “was.” At this point I’m sure other women could beat her. In time, with more and more transgender athletes you’ll probably start to see women athletes put into two classes: Female athletes and Biological female athletes. People who were born with male genitalia would classify as female athletes and people born with female genitalia would be biological female athletes. They may have to create separate leagues at a certain point depending on how prevalent this becomes. This is just another way women get screwed over by men because men won’t have to worry as much about someone being born female winning gold medals against them in the Olympics. It could potentially happen in certain events like gymnastics and figure skating, but definitely not at the same capacity a biological male would win in the female events.

She was going through a rough patch around this time.
