Ask McFartnuggets: “Why Do Skydivers Wear a Helmet?”

Dear McFartnuggets:
Why do skydivers wear a helmet when they jump? Whenever I see a skydiver I’m like really? A helmet? Why not wear a protective cup and shin guards while you’re at it you moron! If you fall and that parachute doesn’t open you could be in a tank your ass is still probably gonna die. What the hell are these people thinking? -- Raphael from Newtown, Pennsylvania

Dear Raphael:
Obviously other things can go wrong when you’re skydiving besides just having your parachute fail and having your body smash into the ground at 120 miles per hour. If you’re diving with other people you could collide and having a helmet would protect you in that situation. If you’re too far off the landing area you might end up in a tree or banging into a house so in that situation wearing a helmet could also help you. Some helmets also have face shields so your eyes are protected. Now what’s the use in protecting a brain that wants to jump out of a goddamn plane? That’s a different question with an answer I don’t think anyone has. Thanks for the question.

Ironically, safety is very important to people who willingly fall out of planes.
