Ask McFartnuggets: “Is it Possible to Swallow My Own Tongue?”

If you're worried about swallowing
your tongue, just get a bunch of
ridiculous piercings.
Dear McFartnuggets:
Whenever I see someone having a seizure everyone is telling them not to swallow their tongue. I’m wondering if it’s actually possible to do this? How can someone swallow their own tongue? -- Charlotte from New Hampshire

Dear Charlotte:
Yes it is possible to swallow your own tongue. In order to do so you would have to cut it out of your mouth first then eat it. I’m not sure why anyone would want to do that, but that’s really the only way to literally swallow your tongue. If you try to swallow your tongue without cutting it out first you’ll just choke on it. There’s a muscle that connects the tongue to the mouth so you can’t get it down without severing that tissue. When people have seizures they can CHOKE on their tongues. People make a big mistake when they talk about swallowing a tongue. The risk is choking on it. Please make sure to correct people about this so we can stop spreadying misinformation about tongue death issues.
