Ask McFartnuggets: “Why is Sunday Part of the Weekend When it’s the First Day of the Week?”

Shhh! He's sleeping.
Dear McFartnuggets:
Have you ever noticed how Sunday is part of the “weekend”? How is that even possible? Sunday is the first day of a new week so how the heck can it be part of the weekend? It should be the first day of the weekstart! Shouldn’t Friday and Saturday be the weekend? How did they mess this up so bad? What can be done to fix this? Is anyone ever going to bother bringing this up? This is kind of a big thing. Why not just make Tuesday and Wednesday the weekend? If we’re just going to ignore the right way that things work and do whatever we want why not go crazy and go all the way nuts?! -- Olivia from Long Beach, California

Dear Olivia:
That’s a good point. However, I think the real issue is, why is Sunday the first day of the week? If it’s the day god takes his weekly nap then surely it should be considered the last day of the week. You don’t take the first day of the week off to rest, you rest on the final day because you were doing so much work the first six. So really Monday should be the first day of the week on the calendar. I’m not sure how this can be fixed. Maybe write to your congressman or something. I mean they can’t get anything done that matters, maybe they can fix a dumb problem that no one really cares about.
