Ask McFartnuggets: "Does Vitamin C Really Help a Cold?"

Dear McFartnuggets:
People are always telling me to take vitamin C to keep from getting sick, but if it really worked why would anyone ever get sick? If it was that easy why wouldn't everyone take vitamin C? If it worked whenever you got sick you could take a ton of vitamin C and immediately be cured, right? -- Jonice from Alabama

Dear Jonice:
Vitamin C has been known to help the immune system, but there’s a lot that hasn’t been proven. According to studies, vitamin C doesn’t help prevent or treat the flu at all. There are some who believe a megadosage injection can help prevent or treat cancer, polio, HIV, and other illnesses, but these are all unproven claims. In short, vitamin C is critical to human health to prevent scurvy, but it may be highly overrated when it comes to all the vitamin C supplements like Emergen-C that are very popular around flu season. You are right, obviously if vitamin C were that effective there would be no such thing as a flu shot and people would just get vitamin C shots. The fact that doesn’t happen is proof enough that a lot of what people say about vitamin C is bullshit.

No, not that bitch.
