Ask McFartnuggets: "Is the Cleveland Indians Name and Logo Offensive?"

Dear McFartnuggets:
People always complain about the Washington Redskins, but with baseball season here why aren’t more people speaking up about the Cleveland Indians logo? The name might not be as offensive as Redskins, but it’s certainly an insulting caricature of these people. Why is Redskins not okay but this goofy ass Indian with red skin cartoon is okay? We wouldn’t accept a team called the Cleveland African Americans with a logo featuring some guy in minstrel facepaint would we? -- Mara from Kansas City, Missouri

Dear Mara:
I think the Cleveland Indians logo is very offensive. People from India don’t look like that! No, but in all seriousness if it’s offensive to people then it should be changed. I’m not a huge fan of it personally, but it’s up to the Native Americans and maybe people from India to be offended or not. I think if I was Native American I would be more offended by Redskins and the Atlanta Braves tomahawk chop mock chant. You have to pick your battles and if anyone knows about battles it’s the Native Americans!

This is clearly perpetuating the stereotype that Indian people have gigantic teeth.
