Ask McFartnuggets: “Will Hollywood Ever Run Out of Movie Ideas?”

Dear McFartnuggets:
Hey, with so many movies these days being sequels and repeats of the same ideas do you think Hollywood will ever run out of movie ideas? Please answer. Thanks. -- Paul from Cranston, Rhode Island

Dear Paul:
I don’t think so. The ideas will get worse, but they’ll never fully run out of ideas. There are basically only like 7 different movie franchises that are responsible for most movies these days. You’ve got Jurassic Park, Star Wars, Fast and the Furious, Avengers, Justice League, Planet of the Apes and Terminator. Pretty much every other movie out right now is one of those. Between those franchises there may be endless sequels, prequels and remakes. People love the characters of the franchises so much that they’ll keep going to see the movies at least until they start to suck and even then, the visual effects will probably compensate for a lack of story. Even if humanity lasts long enough for Hollywood to run out of every possible original idea and every single movie has been remade and rebooted, I think you’ll see a situation where directors get to remake the same movies that have been remade before. It will be more like a cover version of a popular song. People will pay to watch a particular director’s take on “The Shining” or “Free Willy” and every single director will be doing this until the end of human civilization which should be relatively soon after that.
