Ask McFartnuggets: “Why Are There Latin Grammys But No Latin Oscars?”

Dear McFartnuggets:
Why is there a Latin Grammys but no Latin Oscars? How about Latin Tony Awards and Latin Razzies? Why are Grammys the only award show that gets its own Latin version? -- Yvonne from Freeport, Maine

Dear Yvonne:
Actually there are Latin Oscars. There are probably a several hundred thousand Latin Oscars out there. That’s probably one of the reasons there’s no Latin version of the Academy Awards. It would be too confusing for Hispanic men named Oscar. You’d say “Hey did you see the Oscars last night?” and they’d think you were referring to something the Vasquez Gang did. Plus, if you’ve seen the 87th annual Academy Awards then you know Latin people do just fine in them. Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu won Best Picture and Best Director for “Birdman.” The real question is why is there a Latin Grammys and that’s because the breadth of Latin music is so wide that they necessitate their own award show. I think that’s the closest you’ll get to finding a Latin Oscars is the Goya Awards in Spain. The problem is when you Google “Latin Oscars” usually boxing champ Oscar de la Hoya shows up.

If there was a Latin Oscars, the statue would probably look something like this.
