When a baseball player gets a sprained ankle they usually put him on the “Disabled List.” I know people who are disabled, both mentally and physically. Cerebral Palsy, Polio, Acromegaly, Gynecomastia, these are disabilities. Having a list for professional baseball players who hurt their arm and calling them “Disabled” is a bit much. Why don’t we call it the “Differently Abled List”? You wouldn’t call it the “Handicapped List” so why is the “Disabled List” okay? Baseball is the only sport where you can pull a hamstring and be considered “Disabled.” In football they have an “Injured Reserve” for hurt players, they don’t have a “Cripple Bin.” We’re talking about the NFL, a league that has a team called the Redskins, so when the NFL is more politically correct than you that’s not a good thing. This has never been much of an issue because MLB tries to keep the DL on the down low, but I think it’s time for them to take a serious look at this and make things right.
