If
you're like me then you've been on your way to work or someplace else
and seen an elderly woman in a wheelchair just abandoned on a sidewalk,
yelling out for help. You run over to check on her and she says that her
nurse left her there and walked away so you ask the old lady where she
needs to go and help push her. As you're pushing her there you feel
pretty good about yourself, glad that you're helping out this old person
and doing a good deed.
Once you get to the location she
requested she asks you to push her to the store. You check your watch
and see that you're late, but you decide to take her anyway because
you're an awesome person. Then when you get to the store she wants to go
someplace else. You look at your watch and you're thirty minutes late.
You can't just keep pushing this old lady around town and it's starting
to become clear why she was abandoned in the first place. What do you
do?
Walking away and abandoning her would be the easy thing, but
you shouldn't do that, plus it's getting dark out. You could look for
someone else who cares more than you to take over and make her their
responsibility, but that's not right either. The best thing you can do
at that point is just bite the bullet and walk her over to the nearest
senior center or hospital and bring her inside. Sure you're gonna be
really late to the strip club, but your friends will get over it.
There's always next weekend and you can at least rest easy knowing you
did the right thing.
